Motorcycle Awareness in Florida
Chris Reynolds has represented numerous motorcycle accident victims, and knows very well how motorcycle accidents represent a unique area of injury law that is often devastating. As we continue through the summer, please do not forget to be extra aware of motorcycles on the roadways. Especially in Florida, as we enjoy the longer summer days, motorcycle riders are out longer to enjoy the Florida scenery.
Though all motor vehicle accidents are clearly dangerous, this is especially true for motorcycle riders due to the lack of protection when compared to a motor vehicle. As many advise, there are many things we can all do to help prevent motorcycle accidents: be extra careful when changing lanes, check all mirrors before changing lanes, put your phone down, etc.
In the Florida alone in 2016, over 900 motorcycle riders lost their lives. Sadly, Florida ranked seventh in the states with the most deaths.
Though overall traffic fatalities have decreased over the past few years in the United States, motorcycle accident fatalities continue to rise.
Many of these deaths and injuries can be prevented, but it takes everyone on the roadway for us to reduce these tragedies. Many of the most important factors are under our control, and are conscious decisions we make while driving. It is not new news that distracted driving, especially through the use of cell phones, is a contributor in many accidents. Similarly, we know that alcohol can impair our judgment and reduce our reaction time, leading to more accidents. Using a cell phone while driving or operating a vehicle after drinking are decisions we consciously make, but we don’t have to keep making these decisions. Collectively, if people made better choices while driving, these senseless deaths on the roadway could start to decrease rather than the current increasing trend.
Now is a time for people to be reminded of the responsibility they have when they drive.
